Job description

Job SummaryJob Summary

The core purpose of the TX/IP Planning Engineer is to design, dimension, and evolve the transmission and IP transport network (Backhaul, Metro, Core) to ensure high availability, scalability, and performance in support of mobile (2G/3G/4G), enterprise, and data services.

Duties & ResponsibilitiesDuties & Responsibilities

Network Planning & Design

  • Plan and dimension Microwave, DWDM, Fiber to support RAN sites, aggregation nodes, and core locations.
  • Design and optimize IP/MPLS backhaul and core transport architecture.
  • Ensure proper network topology (ring, mesh, hybrid) aligned with resilience and performance standards.

Capacity & Expansion Planning

  • Analyze traffic growth trends per site, region, and service type.
  • Perform bandwidth forecasting based on subscriber growth, data consumption trends, and new service rollout.
  • Implement traffic engineering strategies to optimize utilization and avoid congestion.

Performance Optimization

  •  Monitor key KPIs such as utilization, latency, jitter, packet loss, and link availability.
  • Identify bottlenecks and propose proactive upgrade or optimization plans.
  • Maintain SLA compliance for consumer, enterprise, and wholesale services.

Technology Evolution

  • Support migration from legacy SDH/TDM to IP/MPLS-based transport.
  • Plan transport readiness for 2G/3G and LTE requirements (high bandwidth, low latency, synchronization).
  • Contribute to modernization initiatives including high-capacity routing, carrier Ethernet, and advanced IP features.

Cost & Efficiency Management

  •  Optimize network design for cost efficiency while maintaining reliability.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Coordinate with RAN, Core, NOC, Enterprise, and Deployment teams.
  • Provide technical input for vendor selection and equipment evaluation.
  • Maintain accurate network documentation and design standards.

Risk & Resilience Planning

  • Ensure network resilience through redundancy, protection schemes, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Maintain compliance with technical standards and regulatory requirements.

IPv4 / IPv6 Planning & Basic Knowledge

  • Own fundamental knowledge of IPv6 addressing structure, subnetting, and routing concepts.
  • Support IPv6 readiness in transport and core networks.
  • Assist in dual-stack planning (IPv4/IPv6) and address management strategies.
  •  Ensure transport network compatibility with IPv6-based services and future migration plans.
